Tuesday – Compassion Changes Things

Matthew 25: 31-40 (key verse: 40)

Everything Jesus did was under the watchful scrutiny of the religious leaders. Despite this, and knowing that the cross lay ahead, Jesus still had His eyes on those in need. Motivated by His heart of compassion and making the most of every opportunity that remained, He continued to heal the sick and to teach in parables.

We act in a way that Jesus has modelled to us, treating others in the way He would. Much of what we do is unseen by others, but the parable of the sheep and goats teaches us that everything we do is seen by God. Lord when did we see you hungry…or thirsty…or invite you in…or clothe you?

‘Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.’

As children of God, we are challenged to show the ‘family likeness’ and be like our Father. (Psalm 86:15)

‘Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.’

(Col 3:12)

Where have you become hardened or numb to the situations around you? Whether it is a planned act of kindness or a spontaneous helping hand, God will use our compassion to change things – for others.
